The latest piece of the 2021 Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood Handicap jigsaw puzzle fell into place today when weights were announced for Saturday’s time-honoured sprint at Clifford Park.

The $150,000 Listed Weetwood heads Toowoomba Turf Club’s annual nine-race program also featuring the TAB Toowoomba Cup, Magic Millions Garden City Guineas and Pat O’Shea Two-Year-Old Hopeful Plate.

Toowoomba gelding Soxagon is out to give Clifford Park trainer Mark Currie his first Weetwood success and heads 22 Weetwood nominations with a testing top weight of 59.5kg.

Last month’s Gold Coast Listed Goldmarket winner Desert Lord is next on a classy entry list with 58kg.

Nine Toowoomba-trained gallopers are in the mix for a Weetwood start including Rhyme Nor Rhythm from the Lindsay Hatch stable which took out last year’s race with Jadentom.

Sunshine Coast gelding Dissolution for trainer David Vandyke clearly tops Toowoomba Cup’s weight with his 59kg, 3kg in advance of Wapiti on 56kg.

Last year’s winning Pat O’Shea Plate trainer Les Ross has four of Saturday’s nine race entries as he looks for back-to-back wins in Australia’s opening two-year-old race of the new racing season.

The top-rated Garden City Guineas entry is Sunshine Coast Bulloo from the Stuart Kendrick stable.

Saturday’s Toowoomba fields will be announced tomorrow morning prior to a public Clifford Park barrier draw for the Weetwood and Toowoomba Cup.

First race on Saturday’s card is set down for 12.38 with the final race scheduled for 5.40pm.
