The weather was perfect for Toowoomba’s premier horse racing event, with online ticket sales up by 50 per cent as Clifford Park became a flurry of colour for the annual 1EQUINE Weetwood races,

Patrons were on their best behaviour Saturday, and Turf Club chief executive Grant Sheather said the 2025 event was one of the best in years, with attendance through the roof.

“It was a really excellent day, crowd behaviour was excellent this year,” he said.

The charity auction saw $10,000 raised in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, with some of the prizes including signed cricket bats by Jeff Thomson.

Fashions on the Field had heads turning, with the first prize going to first-time entrant Sandy Holmes, who wore a stunning dress that was a birthday gift from a friend.

Ms Holmes, a former dance teacher, said she was overwhelmed by the win, with the same dress having won second place in Brisbane earlier in the year.

“You never expect to win, so it’s always very exciting when it happens,” she said.

Ms Holmes said the races give her an opportunity to reunite with old friends, some of which she met while attending races around the region.
